Minecraft server update?

I have a question about updating my Minecraft server. When the big Minecraft 1.14 update came out, I had to make a new world to include the update and all the content.
Now that Minecraft 1.14.1 came out, I apparently have to make another new world or something because when I try to join my world, it says that the server is outdated.
We just switched our version to be Minecraft 1.14 from the launch settings so that we can still play it.
There must be a way to update our current world and I just don't know how. Does anybody know what I'm missing here? I wouldn't mind just staying on Minecraft 1.14, except that it's insanely laggy sometimes and from what I've heard, 1.14.1 was supposed to fix that.
